Add quote expiry to an app without ambiguous deadlines
Define the deadline, time zone and next action when a customer returns after an offer has expired.

Choose the deadline the business means
MDN documents that a local date-and-time input does not itself provide a time-zone setting. That matters when a quote expires at a stated hour. Decide whether validity ends at the close of the business day, a fixed local time or an elapsed period after sending. The customer-facing text and the acceptance check must use the same interpretation.
Name the relevant time zone when customers or staff may be elsewhere. A phrase such as valid until Friday is insufficient if acceptance closes earlier than the customer expects. Ask the business owner to choose the policy and present it in ordinary language near the quote's action.
Keep expiry tied to the quote version
A revised price or scope may come with a new validity period. Record whether the new version replaces the previous offer and whether its deadline restarts. Do not silently extend an old quote simply because someone corrected a typo unless that is the intended business rule.
Preserve the version and deadline the customer saw. If staff can grant an extension, identify who is authorized and how the extension is recorded. The owner should be able to explain why a quote accepted after its original deadline was allowed.
Design the expired experience
When the customer returns late, explain that the quote requires a new review and offer an appropriate next step. It might be requesting an updated quote or contacting the owner. Avoid leaving a disabled button with no explanation, or showing a success state before the expiry rule is checked.
Decide what happens if the page was opened before expiry but the action happens afterward. The business rule should be evaluated at the chosen acceptance point, not assumed from an old page load. Ask the implementation reviewer to demonstrate that case with controlled sample times.
Test the boundary and the exception
Create quotes just before, at and after the cutoff, using the policy owner's expected outcomes. Include a changed deadline, an extended quote and a superseded revision. Check both customer and owner views, including the text shown in any notification or downloadable summary.
Keep the final rule in the app's operating notes and repeat these cases when date handling changes. An expiry feature should make the offer's status understandable to both sides. Its value comes from a consistent decision and a useful recovery path, rather than a countdown that looks precise but means something different to each person.
