Find what still depends on the app
Emergent states that shutting down a published app does not delete its databases or external services. Use that distinction when planning retirement on any platform. Begin with open requests, active users, shared links and scheduled work. An app with little recent traffic may still hold an unresolved customer commitment or a file someone expects to retrieve later.
Name the person authorizing closure and the date the service will stop accepting new work. Decide how existing work moves to the replacement process. Give users an appropriate notice or next step through authorized channels, and make the old entry point clear about where to go after closure.
Preserve the information you need
Inventory records, attachments and relevant decision history. Use supported export or backup options and verify that the saved material is usable for the intended purpose. A successful download does not establish that important files or relationships are included, so inspect a representative sample.
Apply the organization's actual retention and access policy. Keeping everything forever and deleting everything immediately are both decisions that need justification. Restrict access to preserved material and record who is responsible for it, especially if the app contained customer or employee information.
Close connected work deliberately
List scheduled reminders, message connections, payment-related services, domains and other accounts associated with the app. Determine which are shared with other applications before changing them. Shutting down one app should not break a service another part of the business still uses.
Stop or redirect background work through the appropriate controls and verify the result. Check recurring charges separately from runtime availability. A public page disappearing does not prove that every related subscription ended, and a cancelled bill does not prove that retained data was removed.
Verify the final state
Visit the old address, try the relevant entry links and confirm that users receive the intended closure or redirection experience. Check that no new requests enter an abandoned queue. Review the next scheduled run where necessary to confirm that obsolete reminders or jobs no longer operate.
Keep a short closure record identifying what was shut down, what was preserved, what remains active and who owns any follow-up. Use deletion only with the required authorization and verified scope. Retirement is complete when the business can explain where its work and information went, and no unnoticed dependency continues acting as though the app is still in service.
