A florist delivery area should follow the route you can serve

An eligible address is only the first check
Shopify local delivery supports defining an area by radius or postal codes. That helps determine which addresses can receive the option. It does not by itself settle whether a florist can deliver a particular bouquet at a particular time. Consider a hypothetical shop serving offices and homes. An address nearby may still be hard to reach during a restricted access window. Build the delivery offer around routes and staffing the business can operate, then check that the software can express the boundaries customers need to understand.
Define the promise in customer language
Decide whether the customer chooses a day, a broad window or an exact appointment. Each promise requires a different level of dispatch control. Put order cutoffs, recipient contact requirements and unavailable dates near the delivery choice. Avoid using a general shipping estimate to describe an arrangement that depends on a local driver. If staff must confirm availability, call it a request until they do. The customer's confirmation should identify the selected option clearly enough that they can plan for the recipient to be available.
Make difficult addresses reviewable
In the hypothetical shop, a hospital reception, a secured office and a private home may need different instructions. Collect the information needed for delivery without asking every customer to complete a long interrogation. Give staff a way to flag missing access details before dispatch. Define what happens when a recipient is unavailable and who may approve an alternative handover. A free-text note can help explain an exception, but it should not quietly change the promised service or allow an unsupported address to bypass the delivery boundary. Review the driver's information sheet to ensure the recipient, delivery instructions and contact route remain legible without opening the full customer account.
Trial the edge of the area
Use sample addresses inside, outside and near the boundary. Verify what the customer sees before paying, including the treatment of a mixed order or an incomplete address. Then assemble a mock route and check whether the delivery promises can coexist. If they cannot, reduce the area, narrow the offer or add a review step. Judge success by whether the shop can produce and deliver the accepted orders using the information supplied. A large shaded map is less useful than a small area the team can serve consistently.
