Weekly course or repeatable appointment? Choose the right booking model
Distinguish a series commitment from separate time slots before selecting a scheduling extension.

A series is a distinct promise
WooCommerce Bookings documentation says the extension is not designed for recurring events. That does not rule out other extensions or a tailored solution, but it is a reason to define the use case carefully. Imagine a hypothetical six-week ceramics course. A learner may be buying one place across all six sessions, rather than choosing six unrelated appointments. Decide whether attendance is a series commitment, a flexible pass or a collection of independent bookings. Each model creates different capacity, payment and communication requirements for the business.
List the exceptions that define the course
Ask what happens when one session moves, the instructor is unavailable or a learner misses a week. Does the learner receive a replacement session, access to another cohort or no additional entitlement? Resolve those policies before designing a calendar. A series also needs a shared participant list and a way to explain changes to everyone affected. If the first session fills, the later sessions should not appear available to unrelated customers unless that is intentional. These relationships are easy to lose when the course is represented as separate bookable dates.
Compare the owner experience
Give each shortlisted system the same sample course, including a moved third session and one learner changing cohorts. Ask the owner to perform the changes without creating duplicate enrolments or losing the original payment reference. Record the manual work required. A system can be acceptable with a controlled manual step, but that step should be visible in the decision. Do not treat a recurring calendar display as proof of series enrolment. The important evidence is whether the participant's entitlement remains understandable after a real course change.
Publish the model customers will use
Once the workflow is chosen, describe it consistently on the course page, purchase screen and confirmation. If all dates are included, list them. If the customer must choose sessions later, explain how and when. Avoid a generic book-now label that hides the commitment. Rehearse the entire learner journey with someone who has not seen the setup. Choose a series model when the teaching depends on shared progression; choose independent appointments when each session stands alone. Let the educational promise determine the software requirement rather than the reverse. Include the full series dates in the internal enrolment record, allowing staff to identify which commitment a later cancellation or transfer actually changes.
