A tea subscription needs a fulfilment calendar
Set renewal, selection and dispatch cutoffs before offering a recurring box.

Separate renewal from dispatch
Shopify supports recurring product purchases through subscription apps, including its own offering. That establishes a payment option, but your fulfilment calendar still needs an operating rule. Imagine a hypothetical tea club that packs all monthly boxes together. Someone joining the day before packing creates a different workload from someone joining three weeks earlier. Decide whether the first order ships immediately, joins the next batch or follows a clearly stated introductory schedule. Put that explanation beside the purchase choice so the customer can understand what the first payment actually buys.
Create one cutoff people can use
Choose a cutoff for changes to the next box, then work backwards from packing. The cutoff should leave room for sourcing, stock checks and preparing labels. If customers can choose flavours, define what happens when they make no selection. Staff need a frozen list for each batch, with later changes clearly assigned to the following batch. Avoid running production from a live screen whose contents can change without notice. Keep the original list and a record of approved exceptions so an unexpected parcel can be explained.
Design the pause before the promotion
In the trial, ask how a customer skips a delivery, changes an address or ends the subscription. Check the selected app's actual options and the point at which each change takes effect. A paused payment, a paused shipment and a cancelled account are not interchangeable business states. For the tea club, a customer moving house might want only the address changed for one box. Give support staff a written way to confirm the next charge and the next dispatch without making a promise from memory.
Judge one complete cycle
Use a small internal rehearsal containing a new subscriber, an unchanged renewal, a skipped box and an unavailable flavour. Follow every record from the customer request to the packing list. Check that the owner can reconcile the number of paid boxes with the number scheduled for dispatch, including clearly explained exceptions. Evaluate the effort needed to resolve differences, not just how easy the first sale feels. Start publicly only when the club can state its cutoff, honour it and communicate a correction when an exception is necessary. Give each packing batch a short reference that appears in support notes, making address changes and missing-item questions easier to trace.
