Canada’s AI survey makes a case for mapping the handoffs
An AI purchase needs a clear route from a generated suggestion to an accepted business record.

Buying access can change the work around it
Statistics Canada's second-quarter 2025 analysis reports that 40.1% of businesses using AI had developed new workflows. The denominator is AI users, not all Canadian businesses. The statistic describes a reported implementation change; it does not establish how much those changes improved productivity.
For an owner, the implication worth testing is that the surrounding process may need attention. An assistant that extracts details from customer emails leaves decisions about missing information, approval and record keeping. Unless those responsibilities are assigned, staff can each assume someone else has completed the next step.
Separate suggestion from acceptance
Draw a boundary between a generated suggestion and the business accepting it. A proposed delivery date is not yet a promise. A draft invoice is not yet an approved charge. Give these states different names and make the person authorized to move between them clear.
Use a practical example in the software brief. An employee prepares a quote; the owner approves its price; only then does the customer receive it. If the owner changes the price, the original draft should not silently remain available for another employee to send later.
Make exceptions part of the route
List the ordinary exceptions before designing extra features. A customer changes an address, two staff members act at once, or a request arrives without a usable photograph. Specify who receives each case and how they know it remains unresolved.
Keep the original input beside the assistant's interpretation. This makes it possible to correct the interpretation without asking the customer to repeat everything. It also gives a replacement employee enough context to continue the work when the original handler is absent or occupied elsewhere.
Measure whether the redesign helped
Compare completed jobs before and after the new route. Include cases that return for correction, approval delays and the time spent finding the right version. A reduction in writing time is useful, but it should be reported separately from a reduction in overall handling time.
Start with a modest workflow and an explicit owner. If the process becomes easier to explain and hand over, you have evidence for further investment. The survey supplies context for expecting organizational work; your own handoff test determines whether that work produced a useful improvement in this particular business.
