AI may make a foreign-market test cheaper without making the market attractive
Separate the cost of preparing an export offer from the evidence that customers will buy it.

Cheaper preparation and stronger demand are different
The 2025 ICC-WTO business survey reports perceived benefits and uneven AI adoption in trade-related activities. Those reports are not causal estimates for a particular exporter. They give context for testing whether AI can lower the effort of preparing an offer, while the question of customer demand remains separate.
A small manufacturer may prepare a translated catalogue or organize distributor inquiries more cheaply. That makes an experiment easier to attempt. It does not establish that the product fits local needs, that delivery is economical or that buyers will accept the proposed terms.
Choose one market question
Define the uncertainty the first test should resolve. It could concern product fit, the preferred order size or the information a distributor needs before a conversation. Avoid launching a broad campaign whose results cannot distinguish poor targeting from an unsuitable offer.
Use AI for bounded preparation, then have a competent person check language and commercial details. Keep legal, customs and product-compliance questions with qualified advisers and current authoritative sources when they become relevant to an actual transaction.
Track preparation separately from selling
Record time spent creating material and organizing replies. Separately record qualified interest, follow-up conversations and orders. This allows a useful conclusion even if the trial reduces preparation effort but finds little demand.
For illustration, assume a test costs 200 in a chosen currency to prepare and yields four qualified conversations. The preparation cost is 50 per conversation before other selling costs. These hypothetical numbers are a method example, not a forecast or reported business result.
Preserve the learning from rejection
Ask why interested buyers did not proceed and retain the answer in a usable form. A requirement for smaller minimum quantities has a different implication from an unclear translation or a delivery constraint. An assistant can organize those reasons, but the owner should inspect the original messages before changing strategy.
Expand on commercial evidence
Increase the effort when the trial reveals a credible path to profitable, supportable orders. Narrow or stop it when the operating constraints remain unattractive. Lower content costs can justify more experiments without justifying a larger commitment to every market.
Our recommendation is to treat AI as a possible reduction in the cost of learning. The survey supports investigating the opportunity; actual buyer response and fulfillment economics determine whether the foreign-market opportunity deserves the next investment.
