For Indian merchants, reconcile the payment before asking AI to explain it
Use AI around transaction records while keeping payment confirmation tied to the payment system.

A payment system and an assistant have different jobs
BIS Papers 152 examines fast-payment systems and includes research on India's UPI experience. It is payments research, not a certification of a merchant's software integration. For a business adding AI around orders, the first distinction is simple: payment status must come from the payment process your business actually uses.
An assistant can help summarize a customer's message or organize an exception. It should not decide that money arrived because a customer says so or because an uploaded image looks convincing. The economic value lies in reducing administrative confusion while preserving a dependable basis for fulfilling an order.
Keep separate order and payment states
An order can be received while its payment remains unconfirmed. A payment can be recorded while the order still needs clarification. Give these states separate fields so staff do not mistake progress in one process for completion of the other.
Use a hypothetical delayed-confirmation case in the trial. The customer returns to the order page before the business has confirmation. The page should explain the actual state and provide a recovery route. It should not create a second order simply because the customer retries the action or asks the assistant what happened.
Let AI prepare the investigation
For an unresolved case, an assistant might collect the order reference, organize the customer's explanation and draft a response for review. Staff should check the relevant payment record before deciding on fulfillment or a refund. Keep that decision visible and attributable to an authorized person.
Test two customers with similar names and one customer with two orders of the same value. These examples reveal whether staff can connect the right records without relying on a plausible narrative. Matching based only on a name or amount may leave ambiguity that a fluent summary does not remove.
Measure exception handling honestly
Track unresolved cases, duplicate work and time spent finding the relevant records. Compare the assisted process with a simple shared exception list. If the basic list solves the problem, adding AI may be unnecessary at the current volume.
This article offers a software workflow analysis, not financial or regulatory advice. The BIS source supplies the payments context. Your acceptance test should establish that the tool makes confirmed facts easier to use without turning a generated explanation into a substitute for the payment evidence the business requires.
